For anyone who is contemplating working in the embalming field in the USA, the American Embalmers Association is probably a good place to start. They have links to schools for education, and career advice for people who are genuinely interested.
They also give out some good advice, for example “Anyone considering a career in funeral service must understand all the aspects of the profession. This is a profession that must be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. We do not control when someone dies. This means that someone from the funeral home (and in some cases, the embalmer also) is always on call, uses a pager, and is interrupted on holidays and other special events of their personal life. This is the life we choose and sign up for when we go into funeral service.”
For people in the UK the British Institute of Embalming is the best place to start. They also have links to schools and courses in the UK and some that are out of the country in Australia, Belgium and France.
Amazon has a wide range of book on embalming like
- Embalming: History, Theory and Practice by Robert G. Mayer
- The Principles and Practice of Embalming, 5th Edition by Clarence G Strub and L GDarko Frederick
They also have VHS Tape called Unlocking Mysteries of Embalming
